As the rest of the retail world struggled to survive the economic downturn, this 12 year old Austin original opened 3 new stores. At the same time the company increased sales at the original location and online for a total of just over $12,000,000.
"Our growth was fueled by opportunity," says Rick Culleton, the CEO. "The [commercial] real estate was just too cheap to pass up."
In March of 09 Discount Electronics purchased a vacant Hollywood Video building in South Austin from a California REIT. Ninety days later they followed up with the purchase of a Round Rock location on IH-35 and just a month after that opened a location in Cedar Park.

Culleton has no fear that a recovering economy could dampen sales. The company sold a record $7.5M for the first half of 2010 and expects revenue for the year to exceed $16,000,000.
