The Inc. magazine list is an annual ranking of the country's top 5000 fastest-growing, private companies. NESI has been included on the Inc. 500 list for 1985 (#478), the Inc. 5000 for 2009 (#4595) and again in 2010 (#3253). Robert H. Crosby, President and CEO, commented on the special honor, "We have been in business for thirty two years in the education marketplace. Our primary clients are federal and state education agencies, and local school districts. There is a definite trend towards outsourcing various education-related projects, so I am hopeful that our growth will continue."
To qualify, companies must be U.S.-based, privately held and independent. Rankings on the prestigious list are determined according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2006 to 2009. Revenue in the first year must be at least $200,000 and at least $2 million in the fourth. Despite the latest recession, aggregate revenue among the listed companies reached $321.6 billion, up more than 50 percent from last year. This year's winners employ 1.4 million people, a high water mark for the Inc. 5000. Rankings on the prestigious list are determined according to percentage revenue growth over a three-year period, three full calendar years of sales.
