Seahorse Bioscience Ranks No. 1600 on the Inc. 500|5000 List of Fastest-Growing Private Companies in America for 2012 with Three-Year Sales Growth of 183%

BILLERICA, Mass., Aug. 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Seahorse Bioscience, the world leader in manufacturing instrumentation and assay kits for measuring cellular metabolism, has been listed in the top 25% of the 2012 Inc. 500|5000 list of the fastest-growing, private companies in America two years in a row.

Inclusion in Inc. Magazine's annual Inc. 500|5000 list is considered to be one of the most prestigious awards for companies in the private sector, recognizing companies that are changing their fields.  Despite a stagnant economic environment, median growth rate of 2012 Inc. 500|5000 companies was 97 percent.  The companies on the 2012 list have  created over 400,000 jobs in the past three years, and aggregate revenue among the honorees reached $299 billion.

"Now, more than ever, we depend on Inc. 500/5000 companies to spur innovation, provide jobs, and drive the economy forward.  Growth companies, not large corporations, are where the action is," says Inc. Editor Eric Schurenberg.

"The acceptance of Seahorse XF analyzers as the standard for measuring cell metabolism is evident in the 200% increase in scientific publications that contain references to XF data over last year.  And the addition of our new cell stress tests is enabling scientists in translational medicine to study patient differences offering new understanding of the disease process and for drug discovery.  We are impacting research in age-related diseases, including cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's, and cardiovascular disease," said Jay Teich, Seahorse Bioscience, CEO and Founder."

The Seahorse XF Extracellular Flux Analyzer measures cellular metabolism, simultaneously measuring the two major energy-producing pathways of the cell - mitochondrial respiration and glycolysis - in a microplate, in real-time.  The XF Analyzer and Stress Test Kits have standardized the measures of mitochondrial dysfunction and glycolysis, enabling scientists to better understand the connection of physiological traits of cells with genomic and proteomic data.  This knowledge is generating new insights into mitochondrial dysfunction, leading to a greater understanding, and new treatments of disease.
